HAPPY BIRTHDAY LET'S KILL DISCO
This week LKD is celebrating its 7th birthday! That’s 7 years of dancing, drinking and death of disco.
But what does having a birthday at the end of May mean for our favourite club night? Well, not only did it get an extra day off last weekend to celebrate, it also gets the dubious privilege of enjoying the English summer sun. A late-May birthday also means LKD was born under the zodiac sign of Gemini, so I decided to figure out whether or not we fit the stereotype.
Geminis are apparently dynamic and bursting with energy, so much so that the sign is represented by the twins: double the energy and double the fun. This sounds like a very plausible explanation for why we have twice as many dance floors as any other Cambridge club, and why people have twice as much fun on our nights. The element of Gemini is air, which I guess explains why this is where you find the best smoking area in town as well.
Anyone born at this time is under the ruling planet of Mercury, which symbolises communication and movement. Well, we have plenty of dance movements (twerking, flossing, slut-dropping to name but a few), and it’s not uncommon for people to find love on a Thursday night, so watch out for those eyes meeting yours across the dance floor.
Another key trait of a Gemini is that they see money as a necessary evil. Well, it might be a necessary evil to spend money on Jaegerbombs and Tiki cocktails, but we try to combat that evil with our free entry for guest list before 11. I guess we’ll see you in the queue at 10:59?
As well as all this, LKD also shares its star sign with some giants of the music world. Bob Dylan, Prince, Boy George, Paul McCartney and Kylie Minogue all celebrate their birthdays under this zodiac too. I don’t know about you but to me that sounds like one hell of a party. Unfortunately you’d also have to celebrate with Donald Trump, whose birthday is coming up in the next few weeks. On second thoughts, I think we’ll make that party invite-only.
I’ll leave you with today’s Gemini horoscope:
“Important matters are burning in your mind and you can’t shake them off until you deal with them one by one.”
So, spend the next few hours sorting out your important matters, and we’ll see you at LKD’s seventh birthday party tonight to shake it off.
It seems that house remixes of the pop songs of yesteryear just won’t satisfy some people. At this week’s Let’s Kill Disco – the best place to be in Cambridge on a Thursday night – some hooligans vandalised the men’s toilets; disgraceful, I know. Read more...
